Six reasons your windows might need replacing

As a homeowner, you have a long list of regular maintenance tasks that you need to keep up with. Some of them are small annual tasks. Others, however, are much bigger and more daunting jobs that need to be done every decade or so. If you move house frequently, you may be fortunate enough to avoid those tasks coming round, but if you’re in a house for a while, then sooner or later, you’ll have to face the fact that you have a major project to undertake.

One of those is replacing your windows. In order to keep your home in peak condition, you’ll probably need to replace them every 15 years. You may be able to stretch them to 20 years if you’re lucky with weather and other factors, but sooner or later, a window replacement is inevitable. Windows will naturally deteriorate over time, especially in the hot, humid, windy conditions around the Bonita Springs area: living down here has many advantages, but the weather can play havoc with buildings that aren’t well-maintained. Frames suffer from mold, mildew, or rust, and eventually they crack and warp. Seals on double-paned windows lose their integrity, and they’ll allow condensation and damp into your home.

1. Energy efficiency

Modern windows are considerably more energy efficient than older windows. They provide better insulation, which will keep your home cooler in summer and warmer in winter. That translates to lower energy bills, less condensation in cold weather, and a more comfortable living environment.

2. Better fit

Window frames that have warped or cracked due to exposure to harsh weather will allow leaks and drafts to enter your home. That’s not just uncomfortable and annoying, but the loss of insulation will result in higher energy bills. In addition, deformed frames can be hard to open, particularly for older residents.

3. Tinted or UV-resistant glass

Modern glass can offer a substantial amount of protection from ultra-violet light. This will reduce the damage to your furnishings, carpets, and even your skin. If you opt for tinted glass, this will also give you additional privacy, which can be a good for rooms facing the street or which overlook shared or communal areas.

4. Reduce noise

Better fitting windows, especially if they’re double-paned, will reduce exterior noise significantly. If you live near a major roadway or an airport, you’ll notice the difference right away. Not only will that give you a quieter environment to enjoy family time, music, or watching TV, but you’ll benefit from better sleep, which has a wide range of long-term and short-term health benefits.

5. Additional security

Modern glass is considerably stronger than windows that were fitted 10 or 20 years ago. Replacing your windows will provide your home with better hurricane protection as well as providing a serious barrier to intruders.

6. Curb appeal

And finally, new windows will make your home look good, both inside and out. Clean, new frames and glass will give your home an instant lift. If you’re looking to sell, new windows will immediately impress potential buyers, improve your chances of making a quick sale, and add value to your home.
